The Gladstone Index is a federal judicial accountability platform that scores and ranks every active federal judge across all 13 United States circuits and 94 district courts. Using live PACER docket data, we calculate performance scores, appellate correction rates, and reversal rankings to hold the federal judiciary accountable.
Every federal judge receives a lifetime appointment through the senate confirmation process. The Senate Judiciary Committee reviews judicial nominations, conducts confirmation hearings, and votes on federal judicial nominees. The Gladstone Index tracks how judges appointed by each president — from Reagan through Biden — perform once on the federal bench, providing accountability data the senate confirmation process cannot.
All 13 federal circuits: First Circuit, Second Circuit, Third Circuit, Fourth Circuit, Fifth Circuit, Sixth Circuit, Seventh Circuit, Eighth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, Tenth Circuit, Eleventh Circuit, D.C. Circuit, and Federal Circuit. All 94 federal district courts across all 50 states, Washington D.C., and U.S. territories.
